Title: Net-render placement issue
Post by: PGD on December 11, 2012, 03:57:42 PM
I've set up a forest map to suit the scene geometry and all looks well in the test renders..

Send to net-render for a higher res image on any machine (including the one where the forest looked fine a second ago) and the position of the forest is different?

The first image is how it should look. The second shows how the netrender looks. Note the tree level, some just make it through the floor geometry. The correctly positioned trees have been placed by hand so not included in the forest.

Any idea why this keep occurring?

This would happen if there is something different in the configuration of the render machines, but i cannot find any reason because it fails in the main workstation.

Are you using a custom map to place the trees ?  Perhaps backburner is taking a different map with the same name...

If you can isolate the problem in a test scene, please send it to us and we will try to reproduce the problem here.

Its the level of the tree's that is changing though. The net rendered trees are around 6 meters lower than they should be for some reason.

I see some trees intersecting with buildings in the second image. It seems the position is different as well.

We would need to reproduce the problem here, to know what is happening exactly. If possible, please send us the scene.

I've got to the bottom of this now :)

I removed and reinstalled the forest install from the node machine, to make sure the latest version was installed correctly - and all is well now.

With the 3dsmax.exe constantly running in the background thanks to VraySpawner, the install was giving an error with the dlo.. Once max and the vrayspawner was stopped the installation ran smoothly :)

Ok, i'm glad the problem is solved.

We will improve the setup program, to check if Max is running before installing. That will help for future upgrades.
