network installation
« on: September 13, 2017, 10:05:47 AM »
Hey,
we have several Forestpro & Railclone licenses and we really love to see regularly new updates with all these famous features. But updating all workstations is quite a hassle so we´d love to have one centralized itoosoft plugin and presets folder and the local workstations 3dsmax.ini file just pointing there.
Is that possible and how?
Thanks in advance,
Matthias

Hi, theorically it's possible to place all files in a network path. But the process is not simple because there are multiple files, and each one must be in a different folder.

First of all, you can see a list of all files, and an overview of the installation procedure here. Next, each one of the files are handled in the following way:

- Plugin file (forestpack.pro) must be in the plugins Max folder, or any path defined in "plugin.ini" (according to this)
- DLLs (ForestVRay???.dll, Qt???_itoo4.dll, etc) must be in the Max root folder, or any path defined in the PATH environment variable.
- The library, maps, effects and other files are placed at C:\Program Files (x86)\Itoo Software\Forest Pack Pro.  You can modify this path in the "MainDir" registry key, at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Itoo Software\Forest Pack Pro.
- Additional library paths are defined at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Itoo Software\Forest Pack Pro\LibraryDir

Please note we don't support this type of installation, because its complexity and potential issues. Also we'll do some changes in the next major update.
Instead, i would suggest you take a look to the unattended installation procedure in the documentation. It can be a simpler method to upgrade your workstations, and less problematic.

I hope that helps.
