scattering a proxy vs a mesh

i am using Fstorm renderer but wondering is it better to scatter a proxy or the mesh?

We have not technical details about how FStorm handles them, but probably it's not worth to use proxies.
In all cases, a single copy of the source object exists in memory, and Forest (and the renderer) creates instances of it.

This FAQ entry describes the differences between using proxy or mesh in V-Ray. I guess it's applicable to most of render engines, including FStorm.
