New hedges - size

(1/2) > >>

VanWijnen:
Hi,

I've found that the topiary versions of the new hedges are quite wide out of the box. With the beech variant it's near impossible to have a hedge that's 40cm wide and 60cm high. The height is approachable but the width isn't. I think this is because of the distance from the furthest leave from the pivot is the size that it can protrude out of the base object you want to scatter the hedge on.

Is there any way around this besides using individual leaves for the surface and then some leaveless branches to fill the center?

Rokas:
The preset is what it is- a bit on a wild side. Maybe You need another preset for Your look.

Maybe You can cut excess geometry using vraydistancetex:

VanWijnen:
Hi Rokas,

That is a very interesting workaround! When I try to copy it, it doesn't seem to work at all. Is there a parameter you used to accomplish this that's not in the image you've sent?

The reason I got confused is because it seems to work a bit differently than the cut hedges tutorial. The pivots are correctly placed at the top, but it looks like the geometry is placed outward nonetheless.

Any thought on this?

Rokas:
Thin box proxy preview mode is misleading. Use point clouds to evaluate position.

Anyway You can play with Z offset values to adjust position, as well as adjust global scale.

Hope You can make it work for Your needs.

VanWijnen:
Unfortunately we can't get the solution you provided (VrayDistancetex)to work. Is there a parameter that's not in the picture you send we might be missing?
