FP respecting the scale of the object in Reference mode
« on: June 09, 2023, 11:53:48 AM »
Hello!
I am writing to ask you to suggest an expression for FP that would adapt in scale to the selected axis of the object on which it is peered. In the distribution tab, selecting 'scale' does not work.
To clarify:
- I am using RC to determine the width in the Y axis of the object on the line
- under the RC object I am attaching a FP which is supposed to add veils on this object but it does not respect the width of the RC object
The idea is that I use the start, end and default in the RC to naturally suggest the randomness of the placed curtains in the windows.

Thank you for your help and best regards!

Hi,

Well, that would work just in the case of “scaled” reference objects – it’s not “measuring” the real size of the referenced object(s). Anyway, is there any particular reason not to handle all these within the RailClone plug-in? That would be the recommendable way for this kind of setup(s).

Best regards,

I am grateful for your response. I hasten to explain. In RC I am able to get a very natural and safe (the model does not go outside the lines) placement of the curtains in the windows along the line. As you say I could give curtains only in RC however when we take the optimisation aspect, we find that the scene takes 10 minutes to start, where FP gets the job done in 30 seconds. We are talking about adding curtains to 200-500 venues. Hence my request.

Hi Damian,

Apologies for the delayed response. Using the recently introduced Proxy Cache feature would be highly recommendable for these purposes. It's very efficient - it'll load and render much faster because RailClone doesn't need to perform so many calculations to rebuild them, which is especially useful for complex styles. In theory, there shouldn't be any significant difference between the Embedded / External mode though the Embedded might be a bit faster.

I hope that helps.

Best regards,
