Forest Pack/RailClone Feature Request
« on: July 10, 2012, 03:24:17 PM »
Hi,

I am trying to create some low topiary bushes in a maze structure, it has curved sections and 90 degree corners, it needs to have a neat edge. I have 6 small cubic sections of bush, just unique enough to avoid obvious tiling when arrayed.

I have tried forest pack pro and railclone pro, but forest pack lacks the ability to align along spline, and railclone can't implement random sections.

unless I'm missing something I'd like to make this a feature request. Also the ability to rotate the segments by 90,180,270 degrees would be benificial in adding randomness to the bushes without extra segments.

Thanks

Dan

Depending of the maze's size (because the total number of instances), instead creating the bushes using cubic sections, you would create a continuous bush structure, and use Forest to scatter the plants over it. Just apply a properly UV mapping to the base, and use the Forest UV Surface mode. You can even use RailClone to create the base.

If you prefer the sections solution, Forest includes a tool to create items aligned with a spline: it is available in the Custom Edit mode (Tree Editor->Creation Tools->Along a Path). On this mode you can adjust each item (section) individually where needed.

To rotate the items at discrete values, use a Probablity Curve (v3.9.x). The documentation includes a image sample for this configuration:

It would be a bit tricky to set the values in the curve for discrete rotation, so i've attached a sample scene (the same used for the documentation). You can use it as reference.

Ah you can align along a path in forest path, excellent, I will try that and the distribution method you mention.

Thanks
