Hi, we have not tested FP 4.4.1 with Octane 3, but it would be a problem with materials:

You can test it converting your Forest Object to stand-alone instances, using Forest Tools (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Forest+Tools).

all material are converted to octanerender mtl, i think so is a problem of the octane 3.14, becouse in the last  version 2.13 forest pack 4 worked without problem with a lot trees
i'll test this tool

Ok, i can confirm this problem with Octane.
It happens because Forest only can generate items for render or viewport, but not both at same time. Octane viewport uses a mixed mode which is not supported by the plugin.

Unfortunately this is not something we can fix easily. Max was not designed to support this behavior.

well, in the past version, like 4.3.4 i will put the forest without problem, i saw forest in view of max and the viewport octane render too, i think so is the price to pay for better and fast versions of octane and forest
thank you for response me

Same problem here, with octane render, I need to click on "update" or "update all"
A easy way to make me pleased, would be to make a macroscript to update and update all. So no need to go in the display tab .... It would be a quick fix before the big one.  :-)
(  in maxscript listener nothing happen when clicking the buttons... )
Thanks

Yes, we should do more tests, but this seems to fix the problem. I'm not sure why this works, because we have not access to the Octane internals.

Did you try the "Movable proxy" trick ?

I can confirm this bug. But in my case there's no failsafe way for me to bring back the preview once it's decided to disappear. Doesn't matter if I close the Octane Viewport, or disable movable proxy or hit update all in Forest Pro. Sometimes it seems to work if I restart Max. But as soon as I start rendering the preview goes away. Needless to say the usability of the Forest Pro is close to zero at that point. It will take me hours instead of minutes to get the scattering/clustering right, because now I have to testrender every change I make instead of getting a decent preview. Multiscatter does not have this issue with crippled previewing.

Hi, what Octane and Max version do you use ? We are unable to reproduce that specific issue here (Octane 3.04, Max 2017, FP 5.2.0).
I mean, it's true that viewport would disappear using Interactive Render, but it should come back clicking Display->Update All.

I want to add the Maxscript interface for "Update All" in next FP update, as suggested above.
A complete fix is much more tricky, because each render engine use their own tricks to simulate the interactive rendering (as Octane or Corona). None of them supported by Max, so we must analyze them and write custom hacks.
