Object Exclusion
« on: May 26, 2016, 02:09:13 PM »
I have created an object to exclude as an area to be painted on later.  When the surface is excluded it excludes everything apart from the the very edges where a few trees remain.  I have tried shelling the object and collapsing to editable poly only to have the same results.  Does anyone know a fix for this? Pic attached.

HI,

Exclude Object areas dynamically generate a map that is used to include/exclude geometry. It could be with a large area like this that the resolution of this map is too low and needs to be increased to improve accuracy at the edges. To do this use the Resolution spinner found in the Areas rollout. You can also increase the Scale of the exclude are here which might also help to remove those trees.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

Many Thanks,

Paul

Thanks  Paul

Upping the texture size to 4096 has improved the result with only a few trees still popping up around the edge.  Going any larger than 4k size actually makes the result worse and unfortunately scaling the map size causes issues in the cut out center areas (as they scale also).  This has given me good insight into how it works which may help with the future.  I think the difficulty lies with the size of the landmass and maybe creating it via a UV map would yield better results for me.

Thanks

Hi,

No problem. Actually you might find you'll get more accurate results by extracting a boundary spline from your surface and using this as an exclude area instead. This doesn't depend on maps so you'll have no issues with unwanted trees.

Thanks!

Paul.
