Feature request: Areas external window / Areas merge
« on: October 06, 2015, 06:25:47 PM »
Greetings.

Noticed, when extensively using areas, it becomes difficult to select, arrange and edit them, because I can see only 7 of them, while I have around 30, and their order is important. It would be nice if I could open areas editor in a separate window on second monitor, and have a long list of areas on the left, and all settings on the right. And, by the way, I would like to have all forest settings in separate window, to open them on second monitor. They are just too much for a rollouts in command panel.

Another idea: sometimes, while working on a large project for a long time, with many changes, areas might require some optimization. It would be great if I could merge two or more spline areas with the same settings. FP in that case should make a copy of splines, merge them, add this one area, delete other areas.

Unfortunately Max offers little edition capabilities, and doesn't allow to resize or move plugin dialogs from the rollout. To get this functionality we should replicate completely the interface, with one dialog for the rollout and other for the floating window. I'm afraid this is not feasible, at least without rewritting large parts of the code.

Said that, i'm glad to announce that we have plans to include a new tool, which makes much easier to select and edit multiple Forest objects. If there are not problems, it should be ready for the next major update.

Regarding Areas merge, i think it can be done. Probably limited to areas of the same type with same settings. I'll add your suggestion to the wishlist.

Thanks,
