Title: Paint Ivy on House?
Post by: SR1351 on August 24, 2022, 06:52:08 AM
I am trying to paint Ivy on a house and it is becoming a real challenge to get it to work.  I have specific areas all over the house, in's and outs, and around corners. Even some on stairs.  But I cannot get the XY to work so I can use the paint tool.  it only works if the object and the forest Pro object where created in Z axis and then both rotated, also even if I rotate the Pivot of the object it still doesn't work.  What is the best way to accomplish this? I'm on a real time crunch, thought this would be easier or I would of asked sooner.

I'm afraid that's currently a limitation when using Forest Pack on vertical surfaces. The surface's Z axis and the FP object's Z axis are required to align. There's more about that at the beginning of our scattering on vertical surfaces tutorial: https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/scattering-on-vertical-surfaces

Another option that might be appropriate depending on your circumstances might be to use UV surface and paint a custom distribution map to specify where you want the icy to grow. You can use Viewport Canvas for this. Please see the following video for a quick demo

At present this is limited to using UV Channel 1, but if you're using triplanar mapping for your building's materials then that might not be an issue.

I hope that helps,
Paul
