Forest object appears in the viewport but doesn't render
« on: March 04, 2024, 10:20:08 AM »
Hi,

I face the following problem: as soon as I start a render, using IPR or not, my Forest object disappears from the viewport and doesn't render.
The Forest object is very simple: just few plants scattered along a spline using "Path" mode as Distribution method.
I never had this issue in the past.

Do you know why and how to fix it?

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you're facing these troubles. Is there any error/warning message (if so, a screenshot would be ideal)? Please check the General - Forest Stats window - it should give you a hint of where the problem might be. Any additional information is welcome. Also, please feel free to send us your scene (ideally simplified and containing just this problematic object(s)) to check it here.

Thanks in advance for any further comments on this issue you can share about it with us / our user community (in case some users run into similar troubles).

Best regards,

Thanks.
No there is no particular error. Here is a screenshot of the Forest stats.
I'm going to send you the scene.

Hi,

Here is the support answer for those who may face the same issue: 'Thank you for providing the scene. You just need to turn off the Limit to Visibility feature in the Camera rollout.'

I'm really surprised as most of the time I don't touch that setting, it works well with default settings in most cases (which is 'Limit to Visibility' activated), this is why I didn't think to check it, and actually I don't really understand what's going on: given the forest object is right in the front of the camera, there shouldn't be any need to turn this setting off.

So my problem is solved, thanks for that, but could you please explain a bit more why is it needed to turn "Limit to Visibility' off?

Thanks again,

Michal Karmazín

As you've pointed out, default values usually work just fine for most common scenarios. In this particular case, the issue is caused by the negative scale of the Forest object, which impacts the calculation of the Limit to visibility feature. I hope that clears it up.
