Parking Lots Door Distance Attractors
« on: April 02, 2021, 12:53:04 AM »
I thought I had seen a solution for this somewhere over the years, but my searching is failing to find anything. Your parking cars tutorial (https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/parking-cars) is great and covers a lot of vehicle related workflows, however what I haven't been able to find is a solution for attracting car placement to building entrances. Higher probability of cars at the doors, less at the back of the lot.

My first thought was to use the Density by Map effect, combined with a VrayDistanceTex - but I don't think the UVs are being interpreted correctly for that texture...come to think of it, not sure how any of them are, something to do with forest's own texture space somehow? In this case I'm using the Path Distribution Mode.

Hi.
Thank You for an interesting question. I tried to make an effect for that. Hope this can be a start for Your final effect. This is just a start to show one way how this can be done.
If You need further help, please attach a max file with Your setup.

Hope this helps

Interesting start, thanks. This definitely works as an initial concept. Limitation of current implementation being the reliance on a single geometry ID, but I bet I could work up some additional ways to work with the initial attractor concept.

The other nice to have would be the ability for the "objects input" in an effect to be a list of multiple instead of just one. Would be nice to have 3 different attractors for a single Forest object. Initially I duplicated the effect for a second one, which of course overrides the first. I suppose a different way would be to add the additional objects as more inputs in the single effect, and then figure out a different way to calculate the probability together. Hmmm - will think more on this, appreciate the first steps!

Hi. Attaching a bit better solution with multiple attraction areas and multiple cars.

This area effect does not work with Path distribution mode though.

Hope this helps.
