Hi

This kind of situations are much better to deal with our other plugin- RailClone (https://www.itoosoft.com/railclone).
I would encourage You to try free Lite version.

As an alternative with ForestPackPro You can use renderTime Booleans (https://forum.itoosoft.com/railclone-pro-(*)/how-to-check-if-segment-was-clipped/msg12599/#msg12599):

Hi Rokas,
sorry to say but i tried to use the method suggested and got an error "cant create a circular reference"

it would be nice of you if you would share a simple setup file where i can check the steps done and use it as a reference for my project

i am using 3dsmax 2017, FPP 6.2.2 and vray next 4.20.01

thanks in advance and sorry for the trouble

works fine here:

You probably are picking plane object instead of box in VRayDistanceTex map.

Hi Rokas,
i think there has to be some issue on my side with something and i cant figure out what,
Thanks for all your time, i think to sort out my issue i will distribute the geometry and then go to edit mode and manually place or re-position the geometry that is protruding out because i have very less time for R&D as of now, will check on this issue when i have some free time

Thanks again for all the help

You are editing box material. You need to edit Your hedge material.

Hey Rokas,
you are the man, thanks a million
it was a silly mistake on my end as i was applying the material to the box and was selecting the box again as the Vray DistanceTex object where as i would have done the reverse

thanks again for clearing out my silly mistake and helping out in my work
love you Rokas

thanks again.

Hi,

This workflow is indeed a very usefull way to use boolean operations in an interactive and light way.
I've been using this a while now but at the moment I'm getting some issues with (unnessecary) shadows on some edges of the zones...

I have also posted this issue at the vray forum just now:
https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/v-ray-for-3ds-max-forums/v-ray-for-3ds-max-general/1048173-vray-distance-texture-causing-black-spots

Hi,

I'm working with a larger scene, a lot of vegetation with quite some cutouts.
The vegetation is done with itoo forest, and each vray material from the multisub has the same vray distance tex in the opacity slot.

Near to the camera everything seems fine, but further away there are appearing black spots on the edges.
What is causing this and is there a way to solve this issue?

In clay I've made some screenshots from my viewport.
The forest object is based on a general area with large patches, where the grass which falls withing the volume returns a white color in the vray distance texture.

Thanks a lot.

Please let me know how I could resolve this issue as this scene would be rendered as an animation. A still could still be fixed in post, but altering 100s of frames isn't an option here.

Thanks

Have You tried to increase Max transp. levels to 100/200/500 ?

Under V-Ray render settings, increase Global switches -> Max transp. levels (default value is 50). Sometimes may be necessary to modify Secondary rays bias also.

Hi Rokas,

Great, that could be the solution, I'll try it and let you know how it went.
Thanks
