Pendant lights hanging down from ceiling
« on: October 14, 2010, 12:41:45 PM »
I want to use ForestPro to create a number of pendant lights hanging from the ceiling. I have set each pendant light so that the pivot is at the top of the wire.

How do I tell FP to make the lights hang downwards from the selected closed polyline? (they all point upwards by default)
Kind Regards,
Rich

Rotate the Forest object 90º in the Y axis, or create it in the Bottom view. Next, you can use "Creation Tools->Along a Path" to create the items along the spline.

Aha. Creating it in the botom view made it work. However, I had tried this before with apparently no success. The problem was that displaying the objects as pyramids (the default) shows them pointing upwards, whereas displaying them as the actual geometry shows them correctly.

This should be changed I think as its a bit confusing: I've spent a while trying to get this sorted out!

Please, send us the scene or post if here. I need to check the orientation of the objects.

Well, in your scene the Forest object is aligned in the default orientation (Z axis upward), so the pyramids shows them pointing upwards, that's is correct.

The pyramids are only markers to show the position and the size of the item, regardless of the geometry. As much, we would to align them according to the orientation of light object, but in this case it is also oriented upwards, so the result would be the same.
