Title: Planting Areas
Post by: BKE on May 01, 2013, 02:44:39 PM
I raised this thought once before, but I wanted to see if there were any new options. I model in Revit, then render in Max/Octane. Is there a good method of 'painting' landscaping areas once I bring my model into Max? I would like to 'paint' mulched areas that would be surrounded by grass.

I am very appreciative of Forest Pack Pro's constant advancement! Thank you!

Yes, you can create unlimited painting areas for each Forest object, that can be later converted to splines and back. You will find many samples in the tutorials (i.e. Modern Barn), besides the documentation:

Thanks.. is there an easy way to then make that painted area a different material - like mulch? We discussed this before as a Max command, but modifying the surface in max caused major problems with file linking. Thanks again!

Forest cannot modify the texture of the surface, because it is a scattering tool, not a material. You would create a "mulch" item and scatter it in a separate area, but if the terrain is very large, this method would create an huge number of items (not efficient).

Just an idea.. a mulch preset could be made, like the rock presets, correct? That could be pretty slick!

Sure. I add it to the wishlist for next updates.

This will really help my productivity! Now, I go back and forth from Max to REVIT to get the planting areas right.
