Something wrong with forest materials in VRay Next
« on: August 31, 2018, 02:18:55 PM »
Hi

I am using 3ds MAX 2019 with VRay Next and the latest FP.
When compositing Layers in 32-bit workflow in Photoshop, I no longer get the same result as before. The RGB color layer is correct, but when compositing the different layers (GlobIllu, Spec, Refr, Refl, Light), there are some differences in the materials on all the FP objects. See attachments.

PS: When just adding a simple one-color VRay material on the FP objects, it is compositing correct. There seems to be some issues with the material generated by the FP

Hope you can help me with this!!

Kind Regards
Bjørnar

Hi, Bjørnar
It is hard to understand from Your images.

You can try disable "Consolidate Materials" and assigne a material to the FP object and see if that makes any difference.

IF it is still the issue, please upload Your maxfile so we can do tests on our side.

Hi. I experience this with all FP objects. Just create a random FP object, for example one of the new presetes. When compositing the layers in PS, I always get the same results. There is a slight differnce in the shade of the colors, specially green. I have attached scene from the test.

Kind Regards

I noticed that the differences seem to apply the Lighting and the Specular layer

Did yet another test, this time with with VRay 3x, and then the problem was elimnated. So the issue is with VRay next and FP.

I would suggest You to contact chaos group for this issue.

I can do that, but this is a issue between FP and VRay Next, I hope you do not ignore this as it regards everybody using FP and newest VRay. Adding a normal VRay material to the FP objects and there is no problems. So clearly something with forest material generated by the FP.

Kind Regards

Hi, the material generated by FP is just a multi-sub with instances to the original V-Ray materials.
So theorically it should not be difference using one or other. Futhermore, this multi-sub is generated in the same way for all V-Ray versions (in fact, for all renderers).

We suggest you contact directly with ChaosGroup because V-Ray has optimizations in the core specific for FP, which we don't know.
If the problem happens only with V-Ray Next, something would have changed in the latest versions (may be related with multi-subs ?). But only they can check it.

Of course we are willing to help them with this case if needed, as we did other times.

Thanks for your understanding.
