Forest Objects cause render crash ( mentalRay ) - Max 2015
« on: January 13, 2017, 10:26:28 AM »
Hi,

i got a strange problem caused by forest-objects. The FG calculating time increases dramatically an leads into a crash ( after up to 10 hours precalculating FG freezes at different positions from 5 - 11 % ). See the attached screenshot.
Strange thing is that i'm using own presets-libraries which worked fine during the last projects ?!? Turning the forestobjects off the rendering runs as fast as usually
I'm using 3ds Max 2015 with SP4 on WIN10 64bit

Hi,

Sorry to hear, you're facing these troubles. Please set the General > Log Level to Debug on one of Forest objects, before sending it to render. There are two logs - one generic for 3ds max located at:

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\<max version>\ENU\Network\Max.log

and other specific for Mental Ray renderer inside of the Rendering > Render Message window.

Please send us these log files to check it here. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Hi, thanks for the quick response!
May i send you a reduced max-file ? Cause we're running out of time and need the render machine to render now and can't "waste" more time on waiting for the crash to send the log-files

Hi,

Sure, just let me mention, that we're not always able to reproduce same troubles with provided scene, as it might be linked to something very specific for your configuration (render nodes set-up and so on).

Ok, the scene file is like first aid -> after we finished our actual project ( next Thursday )  i'll send the log files

Ps.S but it's still strange - after i prepared the scene with forest objects only it works fine ?!? The original file works fine when turning the forest objects off - very strange to me

Hi,

Having selected any Forest object, under the Modify tab > General roll-out you can find the Log Level options (None / Normal / Debug). Attaching screen-shot.
