Title: Proxy Library
Post by: arch3d on December 08, 2018, 10:28:58 AM
Hi,

Does library browser supports proxy objects? I would like to build own library based on proxy objects only - without keeping max files on disk.

Best
Michal

Hi. Thanks for question.

No. Library creation asks for Max File:

What is more,- proxies come without materials so managing them just adds more to scene complexity.
We recommend using XREFs  (https://forum.itoosoft.com/faq/should-i-use-meshes-or-proxies-with-forest-in-v-ray/)in most of the situations.

And You can configure Library browser to create XREFs on the fly when creating Your scenes. Here is a guide  (https://forum.itoosoft.com/faq/merging-presets-as-xref-to-library/)how to do that for bundled assets.

Hello ,
Thank you for answer. I used to use a lot of xfrefs before. Indeed its nice way to manage scene. Lately i am testing FP+GrowFx+Corona:)
So i would like to avoid rebuild model process.
Follow the tutorial: https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/animation-controls-for-stills?back=page%3D3%26tag%3Dfp - proxy is an option.
Reasigning materials is less painful than even simple scene with many variations.

If that is the only concern You can create multiple proxies, then re-import as mesh(Duplicate to mesh), assign material and continue with usual library creation steps.

hehe, i just try this pipeline - I am not sure of my conserns:)
I think i can save some extra resources with proxies ( even if FP treats scattered objects as proxies )

Sounds good but time consuming:(
Ill test it, thank you

Rokas

Thanks for a tip! I made more or less what you suggest

Here what i did:

I forgot that my assets can be load from single file :)
So i imported all proxies to one max file ( file is small - it contains no geometry ) and apply material to every object. Now i can create assets from this file ( standard procedure ) Each proxy can be add to library, has material and is animated :)

I am glad that works for You. Thanks for sharing Your workflow.

No problem:)
I would like to have some taxonomy field to put link to eg. wikipedia. Rigth click --> "go to..." command  so i could lauch web page via library. Could be handy. Sure i can put it in description but every time i have to copy/paste link if i would like to check it.
