Title: Question about "Custom Edit "...
Post by: CK2516 on February 20, 2013, 11:21:58 AM
Hello,
I would like to create some trees in "Custom Edit".
When I click on my surface,  my first tree is in 3d, 2d others.
Why?
Thank you.

How are you adding the trees, from the Creation window or from the Modify panel ?
the "2d tree" is a billboard or a 3D object wrong scaled ?

Please, tell me also what version of Forest do you use.

I use the creating windows. The first point is in 3d and ok but after, all are in 2d.
The version is Forest pro 3.8.1 and I use HQplants 1. I'm working with 3ds max 2012.
I show you an other example. I've picked twice, the first is correct and the second is 2d...

The Tree Editor behaviour was slightly different in Forest 3.8, compared with the current version. Please, try this procedure:

1) Create the Forest object clicking one time.
2) Open the Modify panel->Geometry, add the HQ Plants models from the library. Be sure the default "template" item, is deleted or replaced at end.
3) Open Tree Editor, switch to sub-object level and select the tree (it should be only one).
4) Click "Reset Size", so it gets the size of the HQ Plant defined in the Geomety List, not the size of the default template.
5) From here, add new trees as usual.

No, at Tree Editor->Properties.

Ok, now, all is in 3d  ::)
But...
I can't align the forest on a surface. I've created a forest along a spline (blue in the picture) but the forest is not on the surface "surface haie". The surface is a Editable poly...

Please, check if "Surface->Custom Edit Mode->Link to Surface" is on (this option is just at end of the Surface rollout). Next, click the "Refresh" button in the Surfaces list, to be sure it is updated.

If that doesn't work, send us a stripped scene. I will check it here.

Probably would be better to use a web sharing service, as Dropbox or WeTransfer, to be sure the email is not blocked by any server.

Thanks, we have received the file.

This problem is caused by a bug of this version. It was fixed in v.3.9.5:

Fixed: Surfaces were not working with certain combination of number of faces and aspect ratio of the mesh.

I suggest upgrading to the latest release, or at least to v.3.9.6.
