Title: question on creating forest objects in a scene
Post by: MQ4267 on September 08, 2017, 11:33:04 PM
recently, i happened upon a tutorial (i believe on itoosoft) that seemed to show that a forest object can contain another forest object as it's objects!  i tried it a couple of times and it seems like it works.

i created 5 blades of grass as edit poly's, then i created a small diameter circle, created a forest object on that circle, then clicked custom objects and added all 5 blades of grass.  then, i created another forest object on a surface, custom object and picked forest object #1.

any edits i make to the first, smallelr forest objects seem to be reflected in the larger one.  for example if i increase/decrease the radius of the small circle.

is this "ok" practice?  or has it always been the case and i just never thought of it ha!

thanks,

Yes, this is a correct procedure. Forest supports nested objects since some time ago.

In fact, we have a small tutorial describing this technique. You can find it here (https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/realgrass?back=level%3DBasic%26page%3D1%26tag%3Dfp).
