Title: Re: Painfully Slow - Viewport
Post by: neoVISUAL on June 18, 2018, 02:24:43 PM
It is bug with point cloud display mode and more than one viewport open in Max. Switching from one to two or more viewports is very very slow with point cloud mode enabled. Even if you have multiple forest objects with point cloud preview it gets worse.
Solution for now is to use proxy display mode for forest objects or to work with only one viewport.
Hope this will be fixed soon.

thank you

Hi, i splitted your post in a separated thread, because the original post was a different issue.

We're making some tests here, but cannot reproduce the problem. Please, would you specify your Max and Forest versions ?
If you have some scene which is specially problematic, please send it to us (https://forum.itoosoft.com/faq/how-to-send-a-file-to-itoo-software/).

Thanks,

It is usual in MAX 2016 and Forest pack version from 6.07 beta, 6.08 beta and also 6.09 full version.
It is hapening in large scene with more forest object included and displayed as point cloud. We are using network licences.
When using one fullscreen viewport it is OK. When you switch to 3 or 4 viewports mode in max, you have like 70 percent probability of an almost on minute freeze before you can work again. It is caused by point cloud preview of forest objects.
As we have experienced this starts usually after scene save, so usually 10-15 minutes after opening of scene.

I will try to find some small scene and send it to support.

thank you

Ondrej

Are You sure it is not autosave?

Small scene would be great to have.
Thank You for Your feedback.

It is not autosave, why ?
I just wrote that it is happening mostly after succesfull save of scene commited by user. That of course resets autosave timer, so next autosave comes after a long time and it is clearly indicated.
This has to do something with geometry interaction with forest pack and scene redraw (maybe GPU memory buffer) after switching from one viewport to three or four viewports mode.
It doesnt happen if you work still in one viewport mode. Never, even after an hour of work.
It is only connected to viewport change from single to multiple views.

Does it happen for You in every scene?
We have no similar issue reported.

It would help us if You could send us your simplified scene (https://forum.itoosoft.com/faq/how-to-send-a-file-to-itoo-software/)
