Title: Redshift Render
Post by: IE2440 on July 21, 2016, 11:16:14 AM
I hope Forest Pack will anticipate Redshift Render material support. It is the most production ready GPU renderer and almost the best rendering software I've ever used. It is being adopted by many previously V-Ray studios and is sure to be a direct competitor to V-ray in the days around the corner. The 3ds Max plugin has a great implementation and gets frequent updates.

Hi, Forest Pack is already supported in Redshift. You can find more information here (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=3853.0).

Sorry, I'm new to Forest Pack and I guess I'm not completely sure what support means but since posting, I converted some materials over and have had so much fun :) I had only used Forest Pack with Vray before this. Granted a have a few nice GPUs but this is incredible.

Is there any chance of Forest Color getting support open to more renderers soon or does it have to have a lot of custom work done for each?

I'm afraid it will not be possible in the short term. Most of renderers are not compatible with Max texture maps (as Forest Color), and use their own implementation for textures.
Futhermore, they don't offer a SDK which we can use to port Forest Color to their platform. This is even worse with GPU renderers, because GPU code is completely different from CPU.

The only solution would be that we give them the source code of Forest Color, and they write the implementation. But the code has many dependences of other parts of Forest, data structures which are only available from CPU, etc.... not a viable solution really.

Redshift does happen to use native Max textures and other native Max maps AND they will be releasing an SDK soon.

Nonetheless, sounds like a lot of work to make that happen. Thanks for the explanation.
