Scale factor in Forest Pro
« on: October 16, 2015, 12:39:25 AM »
I've been using Revit / 3ds Max with Forest Pro.  I used to link the Revit file to max and had no problems using the forest pro in max.  However, because of linking issues, my software provider has encouraged me to use the fbx link instead.  The problem that has arisen is in order to get the fbx file to come in at the right scale,  the  "systems Unit Setup" is set to centimeters while the display unit scale is set to feet and inches.  This appears to make Forest Pro bring in the plants at the wrong scale.  Also the brushes sizes on the screen don't correspond to whats typed into the numerical field.  For example, the brush size set to "10'-0" might actually appear to be 6 or 7" on the screen  although the area it paints is 10'-0".

What is the best setting for system Units and Display Unit Scale for Forest Pro to work correctly with my fbx import issue.

Thank You for your help.

Hi,

As the fbx import / link doesn't allow you to define Incoming file units (the scale factor is automatic), it's important to maintain same Units Setup as the source application (in your case Revit). If you are exporting the fbx file from Revit in centimetrs, the System Units Setup in 3ds Max should be set to centimets also. The Display Unit Scale doesn't affect its size at all, just define units that 3ds Max will show you. Generally it's recommendable to have both of them using the same value to avoid any misinterpretation.

Then Brush Properties should correspond correctly to selected Dispaly Unit Scale. Attaching screenshot showing that Metric - Centimetres / US Standart - Decimal Inches conversion works fine.

Best regards,
