Geometry Color ID of Black?
« on: February 10, 2017, 05:05:22 PM »
I have noticed that you cannot set the Color ID of a geometry item to black. If you do this, it will show in the color ID for a moment, but it does not update in the list and when you switch to another object and come back, the color ID is reverted to the original color ID. Is this intentional or a bug? I'd like to be able to use black to fit in with vertex color setups that utilize black.

Hi, this is a limitation of the multiselection: when you select several items in the Geometry List, black is used to indicate that selected items have different color IDs.
Also black color can give problems with Diversity Map feature, because it has not chrominance component.

Briefly: no, black should not be used as Color ID.

Would it be possible to change the visual indicator so that we could use black? The reason being that if a greyscale map is being used to drive a landscape or some other feature, it means lest extra hassle to make an extra map on top that isn't using black?

I can work around it, but seems like we should be able to use black. Just my opinion.

I just tried this and works fine even with Diversity Map: use a dark color but not exactly black, as RGB: 1,1,1.

I hope that helps.

Thank you Carlos.

I was misinformed on the supposed limitation.
