Scatter in volume
« on: June 16, 2022, 05:37:00 PM »
Good day!

I'm wondering how to scatter objects in Volume trying to scatter lights in volume! (like, fireflies)

Q#1
I ran into this post while researching.
Since it has been over 4 years from its posted date, I wanted to know if it's available directly in Forest Pack now.

Q#2
In this official tutorial (Scattering Groups section), where were all drones scattered? Particle Flow used?

Q#3
Scattering Redshift's lights is not supported yet...?
I get endless error messages in Redshift's render log and should restart max to get rid of it...

Q#4
I just checked it supports scattering Octane lights. How can I change color of lights using Forest Color node? It doesn't seem to work

Thank you for your time!

Hi!

Thanks for the questions.

Can you scatter in volumes using Forest Pack

Not at present, but there are several workarounds. Forest Pack can now scatter on particles, so it would be possible to use PFlow or TyFlow free to create a simple volumetric particle fill and then use FP to instance geometry onto the particles. We'll look into adding it as a new distribution mode as well though.

In this official tutorial (Scattering Groups section), where were all drones scattered? Particle Flow used?
Actually in that example they were just scattered in a spline area. The up and down movement came from a Forest Effect. Using particle flow would probably have been a lot easier!

Several Renderers have to add support for us using our API rather than the other way around. Redshift falls into this category. I'm afraid this means that we can't add support for lights, we need to wait for their developers to add support. Feel free to give them a nudge  ;)

Cheers,
Paul

Thank you so much for your time! I will try TyFlow :)
