Title: Setting Quantities
Post by: iCreateLtd on July 07, 2016, 02:01:49 PM
Hi.  Is this possible with FP?

I have a landscaping plan and it indicates a certain plant being used and the quantity in that area.  Can anything like this be done in FP where you add a plant, set a quantity and the plant is scaled to fit the quantity within that area?

Many thanks,

Sean

Hi,

Well, because of the way how Forest is dealing with the distribution in all its Areas, it's not ideal for distributing specific number of items. It's possible for example to limit the total amount of items under Display - Render - Max items, but the distribution will be not uniform as it'll stop when limit reached.

There's a possible workaround to define the total number of items with help of 3ds max's Scatter Compound Object (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-AE42BEFF-2E64-4E7A-B14E-432795894A1F-htm.html) - where you can set the exact number of Duplicates. You can choose as the Source object a simple triangle and then to use the instancing power of Forest Pack, such Scatter object can be used under the Custom Edit mode as Reference Objects (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Tree+Editor#TreeEditor-CreationTools) choosing the Distribute Using: Face Centers. A similar work-flow would be to use a Particle System & Mesher Compound Object.

Hope you'll find it useful.

Best regards,

Ok, thanks for the info.

I'll stick with the AMAZING Forest Pack to do its thing rather than go through ways that might complicate matters.  Many thanks
