Node Render issue
« on: July 07, 2016, 06:41:31 PM »
So I am rendering a Vray scene via back burner.  All forest pack elements are rendering fine apart from grass.  They all have the same version of Vray/3DSMAX and Forest Pack installed on them.  The odd thing is most forest elements are absolutely fine.  Trees etc are great, the only difference comes from grass elements which locally and one node 1 (also the manager) render fine.    The other 4 nodes all render as a charcoal texture (see images)

Has anyone experienced this before and have advice?

3DSMAX2016/sp3 - Forest 5.0.5 - Vray 3.3

Thanks

Are all of the nodes loading in the grass textures?

I am assuming it is not, but I am struggling to find missing forest pack textures when asset tracking.  If I was to collect all textures in 3Dsmax would it also collect all forest pack textures and re-locate them?

Hi,

Might be, that on affected render nodes the path to these assets is missing in the 3ds Max configuration Customize - Configure User Paths - External files stored in 3dsmax.ini. The ini file is located by default here:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\<max version>\enu\3dsmax.ini

Generally, we recommend to resolve all references used by Forest with the Asset Tracker to Absolute UNC paths. It's not necessary, but usually this way you avoid any texture path issues while using distributed rendering.

All maps Forest Pack uses are accessible by the Asset Tracking tool and there shouldn't be any problem collecting them.

Hope that helps.

Ok, I was able to collect all the textures into a folder all nodes can definitely read from.  The problem still persists.  I have tried uninstalling/re-installing FP components and still the same problem.  I am baffled at this point.  It is more so confusing that 1 node renders everything fine all with identical installation paths.

Hi,

I would suggest you to do a quick test using Forest Tools and export scattered geometry to instances. You can find it under Utilities panel - More ... - Forest Tools. For more details, please check our on-line reference guide. This way you can check if this problem happens during Forest object conversion or not.

Did you try a local render on affected node? Is there any difference?

Best regards,

Hiya Michal

So I have found a  missing DLL error with VRay2SidedMtl (used for the flowers etc).  I have a feeling this is my likely issue.

Thanks for your support as always and I will update once I have explored this option.

Just an update.  I have resolved the issue on the nodes.  The DLLs showing up as missing (Vray2sidedmaterial) were present and in the correct folders... why they came up as missing I am not sure, however uninstalling Vray and reinstalling it solved the issue.  :o
