Split Forest
« on: January 14, 2015, 12:11:54 PM »
Here's a regularly case we are facing :
- A scene assembler made a scene with multiple forest and regular topology
- The renderMan get this scene and made his shoots with it
- Sometime the renderMan want to extract some part of a forest to hide it or to make it has an isolated foreground.

The way we are making it at the moment is pretty tough : copy of the forest, create a spline to exclude in the first one & include in the other...

Would it be possible to make a futur feature or a possible easier workflow ?

Thanks !

If you don't need to change the distribution, would set Forest objects in Custom Edit mode, select the items and attach or detach them using Tree Editor tools.
It's possible to revert to Generate mode and keep the distribution, although not obviously after applying attach/detach.

I hope that helps.

Yep indeed, this help a lot.
But we sometimes have a little difference between the two modes, especially when forest has specific Areas values, like falloff density and so...

Thanks for letting me know. We'll check it.
Ideally both modes should generate the same result, but there are many parameters involved, so probably we missed some of them.
