Single spline based behaviour

Hi,

I'm trying to creat both a RC and FP object to create planters based of off 1 single spline. The RC object is done, but I'm trying to figure out how best to create the FP one. To be more precise; I want certain plants to fill the entire spline while others only occur 0,5m from the edge. Adding to this I want this to work on every spline I make, so I think working with custom distribution maps is not an option. If there simply isn't a way to do this I'll keep it at 3 seperate FP objects and offset the spline when it's done, to have the correct spline for each object.

I've attached a simple sketch to illustrate what I mean.

Sort of solution, if You are using open splines:

Hi Rokas,

Thanks for the very quick reply as always. It's for a garden with specific dimensions so an open spline isn't the best solution for my case. I'll just use 3 FP objects for now with the right include settings so I can keep 1 spline.

Hi,

You might find useful the Match Color ID on Map feature (which allows you to use coloured distribution maps, where the color of each pixel defines a type of plant. In the scattering process, each pixel of the map is matched with the "Colour ID" values of the Geometry List, taking the most similar). Please feel free to check the attached scene.

Hi Michal,

Thanks for the input. My spline is supposed to be part of a back yard and will vary a lot. Since the idea is to attach all the seperate areas into 1 big (changing with each project) spline, this would be a lot of work to maintain.

Hi!

Here's another attempt at this problem. Using Falloff Curves, Select By Area and Distribution Map overrides I think you can get close. Here's how to set it up.
  • Add a new Spline Area and select the spline from the scene.
  • Click on Select Models button and then choose the models to fill the whole spline.
  • Enable Distance Falloff, set the graph like the image below.
  • Increase the Include Distance to where you would like the largest plants to start.
  • Remove the effect for this spline by setting Falloff Effect > Include to 0
  • Now we'll add the medium sized plants. Create another Spline Include area and pick the same spline
  • Use Select Models to pick the models to use for the the mid size area.
  • Adjust the Distribution Map > Scale setting if necessary to thin out the scatter.
  • Adjust the Falloff Effect percentage to move the plants back from the boundary.
  • Now add a third Spline area and use the same settings to to create the large trees in the centre of the bed.
