Still no support for Fstorm?
« on: October 05, 2021, 10:03:44 PM »
Ive learned how to get into the main plant and change its materials for instances but it seems I cant do this for gravel.

Hi,

The Gravel presets are heavily dependent on Forest Color which isn't supported by FStorm. That said we had prepared the source geometry for this eventuality by randomly assigning material IDs to the gravel. To adapt the material you'll need to locate the Forest Colour map and swap it for an Fstorm MultiTex map instead as shown below.

You will probably need to assign the materials to the source geometry as well.

A sample file can be downloaded from this link: https://d.pr/f/PEpCDI.

I hope that helps,

Paul

Ive already tried that with no success and it turned out that I had to use a Multi-subobject material for gravel with no need for a multi-texture map. I used a Vray preset to see how Vray handled it and then just swapped out the bitmaps. Can you confirm this?

Hello Dustin, did you try my sample file? It was a conversion of a V-Ray preset too although each preset may have small differences. One thing to note is that for FStom you must apply the material to the source geometry, not to the FP object itself.

Thanks,
PAul

Yes, but unfortunately I wasn't able to find the source geometry. Fortunately I was able to apply the material directly to the Forest Pack item. Not sure why it is working differently than whats described here.

Hi,

If it's all working for you then I wouldn't worry, but just for information you can find the source objects for items loaded from the library in the hidden forest_templates layer

Another handy tip is the ability to select source geometry by clicking on a Forest object and choosing the Select Forest Custom Object option from the Quad Menu. You can hold down Shift to pick multiple objects.

I hope that helps.
