Strange edges problem
« on: November 29, 2016, 04:42:33 PM »
Hi, having issues with the edges of my grass against a kerb.

I've got edge mode selected which does the job as described in the tutorial I followed. The problem I'm having though is that the geometry that was there before the edges setting was applied seems to be making an alpha transparency so I end up with large gaps in the image. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hope that makes sense to someone! Image attached of the problem I'm getting.

Hi,

As mentioned in the "Some key notes about Areas->Boundary Checking->Edge mode" related post: "In the case of very high density scatters (like dense grass), many overlapping objects could be generated and V-Ray may exceed its default transparency limit (which can cause render artifacts)".

Increasing Global switches - Max transp. levels (default value is 50) should fix it (sometimes may be necessary to modify Secondary rays bias also).

Best regards,

Thanks very much for the quick response, sorry I didn't spot that post (I did search but must have used the wrong terms).

Changing the max transp. levels has solved it. Had to go quite high but it is an awkward model I'm working on so just glad it's done the trick.

Thanks again.
