Forest pack breaks groups?
« on: June 06, 2015, 09:37:20 PM »
Hi

Couldnt find anything on this topic.

When i import a tree object that is a grouped model of a tree and it's leaves and then scatter it with Forest pack i get weird results. Forest pack acts like it is breaking my groups apart and scatters each individual object. The result is leaves by themself and alot of naked trees while some other objects are correct.

How do i work around this so that it scatters the complete object?

have You tried looking here:
http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Add+Geometry

TL;DR collapse group to one single object.

Hi, for objects which must handled as an unique entity (as trees), you must attach all elements in an unique mesh.

Forest supports groups, but only to distribute sets of objects that usually are scattered together (as clumps of flowers). You can see an example here. In this case, each item of the group is handled as an independent element.

I found this topic, and would like to know if there is any new technics to avoid breaking groups into FPP.

The fact is I would like to scatter tree into pots, and those pots are in wood plank, that use a Multitexture Material & the MaterialbyElement modifier to be textured with single plank randomly. So the issue is that it doesnt work anymore if you collapse all the poly together, and the planks are buggy textured.
Cant we conserve hierarchy of a group into FPP ?

Thanks !

Hi zules, thank You for "upping" this post- google likes this one and info here is outdated.

I wrote a small tutorial how to use groups. Check it here.

Hi Rokas,

I'm using FP to scatter groups of furniture (have just created one for now but will do variations afterwards. I have done it before with no problems, but somehow now FP is exploding my geometry. I adjusted all my pivots and added the group as you instructed here https://forum.itoosoft.com/forest-pro-(*)/scattering-groups-5300/.

No transforms even added yet.

I selected the collisions option under distribution to avoid intersections.

Any idea of what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks,
Terri

Hi,
Hard to tell from screenshot. If You attached a file that would help us to troubleshoot the issue.

Please use this form to contact us if You can't attach files publicly.

You need to be logged in.
Also You can use wetransfer if compressed file is bigger than 6MB and paste the link in message
