Maximum number of items exceeded
« on: August 08, 2013, 11:04:26 AM »
Forest pack pro is a great piece of software but this "Maximum number of items exceeded" causes me major headaches. The main problem is you don't get the error until you have finished rendering. Is there anyway to check this before hand to avoid doing hours of rendering and then finding the problem.

I have a model at the moment. I am using stones for track ballast. I have made my Max density in the Distribution roll out to 100 and my Max Items to 5000000. If I higher my units in the distribution panal then I won't get the number of stones I require in the render. I have attached a screen shot of my stats. I also use the camera to limit visibility.

I am constantly running in to this problem as I tend to have large Civil Engineering scenes. How do I get around it.

Thanks

Although in this case Forest Stats shows 850k estimated render items, the value is obviously not exact because your render is exceeding 5 Mill.

Are you rendering a moving camera ? Unfortunately, it's not possible to know the total number of items when using Camera clipping on an animated view, because the distribution changes at each frame.

I suggest to enable Camera->Distance falloff, so the number of items will keep much more constant. Probably you must make some rendering tests before, adjusting Fallof Scale to make the distant items tiny. If not, you would get flickering, because the distribution changes with the camera's movement.

Thanks Carlos for getting back to me. The real way to solve this issue is to use smaller areas and more forest pro objects. Then I could use higher units which would solve my problem
