Switching viewport
« on: April 20, 2021, 11:06:41 PM »
Hi

I don't know if this is a Itoo og Vray problem, but as soon as I add a slightly heavy Itoo forrest "lawn" in my scene, max freezes for half a minute or more, when I switch viewport from one big ti all four.
Any else experienced that?

Hi. Would You please tell more about the issue. It does not look like vray problem at all (unless You have IPR running at the time of switching)
Please tell the softweare versions You use for max vray forestpack.
Do You use PointClouds display mode or Proxy? Does changing it to the other help when switching? Is it only first switch or this slowdown happens all the time?

Please tell more about the issue. The more- the better. So we can understand it. And maybe some other user had this that could help with it.
I have not experienced such an issue before.
Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I found out, that FP mabye is seaching for textures... When I reopen the scene, is misses a lot of fp_.....jpg files. If I pick material from the Meadow object created with FP, Ithere is a image in the Bitmap Parameter slot, but it can't be loadet.
When I click on it, it sends me to the dokument/max root, but cant be found.

I reeinstal FP and it downloads about 3 GB files. I can see that there is images in some of the Maps folders fx. Cut Hedge, Layered Lawns but many is not in the folders. Looks like they all are in one big Maps folder in C/users/my name//app data/itoo software/Forest Pack Pro/maps.
Can't seem to point the texture directory for FP on that messy folder. I don't understand that oddly file system of FP.

How do I set the correct path for ALL the FP objects at once? I figure thats one of the reasons FP is so slow, that it's seaching for the textures.... :-(

ForestPack does that for You. You can disable it via Library Browser Options:

I don't understand that oddly file system of FP.

ForestPack uses 3ds max file system. If texture paths are not found where they are declared(or declared only a filename without a path) then 3ds max uses these folders to search for missing assets:

That is where forestpack puts folder entries after finding maps folders from Your Library.

Here is a simplified example: I used texture without full path. Technically this path does not exist, but there is a folder in "External Files" folders list where that texture exists, and texture works.

This is how 3ds Max and FP file system works.

I use FP 6,3 despite I bought the newest FP. 6,3 doesn't have that option in the box

In FP6 this can be accessed in forestpack.ini
%localappdata%\Autodesk\3dsmax\<max version>\ENU\en-US\plugcfg

Set it to 0.
