Timeline Move -> 3ds Max Crash
« on: February 06, 2013, 12:31:26 PM »
Hello everyone,

To begin, I'm using latest Forest Pack Pro with 3ds max 2013 x64.

So here is my issue.

I made 4 differents Forest which are small areas with differents type of grass. The render mode is mesh.
I added the 4 forest into one big.

I saw this technique in your grass tutorial. So instead of using a some meshes that I will scatter with Forest Pack, I use one Forest to scatter other forest.

Everything works fine as long as I don't move the timeline.
If I move it 3ds max will crash after some seconds.

If anyone got an idea how to fix this or if you need anything just tell me :).

I saw you might need the dump file from the crash so here it is (right click, register as...):

Thanks for the dump file, it has been very helpful to identify the crash point (basically Max is returning a null object where is should not).

In order to fix it, i'm trying to reproduce the crash here, but without success. Please, would you send us a test scene ? ...probably it fails only with certain combinations of parameters.

Thanks for your fast answer.

Here is the scene:

I didn't add the textures but you shouldn t need it. I think :).

Unfortunately i have not luck reproducing the crash here: i can move the time slider without problems (using the same Max and Forest versions).

Is it the problem random or consistent ? Does it crash only if a Forest object is selected or always ?

Lol.

Ok, the problem was from substance.
In the same time I was talking to Allegorithmic about an issue of lag when I moved the timeline.
Today they told me it was a 3ds Max implementation issue.

When I saw your answer, just to be sure, I tried to remove the substance from the scene.
It's working like a charm now.

I will definitely have to remove all substances from my shader library. Super !

Thanks for your help :)
