Tree Editor .. Assigning parameters to individual types?
« on: September 23, 2014, 02:29:41 PM »
Hi, been using FP Pro for some time now and am struggling with something that you folk may have an answer to. I've got a workaround for it, albeit a slightly messy one. I have for example a Forest Object, with 6 types of tree/plant contained there-in. I select 'By Type' to alter say scale, rotation etc.. but instead of just altering that particular tree/plant, it alters the parameters across the whole object collection. Am I missing something? Also, it would be good to be able to go back and tweak the materials for a particular type without have to trawl through the material slate editor, i.e. if you select by type, then go to material editor, just to be able to click from selection, bringing up just that particular material. Just a thought. Any ideas please?

Hi, if you want to modify a single item, just click in the viewport to select it.
"Select By Type" lets you to select multiple items, in this case all of the same type. To use this tool, select any item of the type you like (it will change the combo below Properties->Selection), and click the button.

Regarding materials, these are defined in the "Material" parameter of the Geometry rollout. So, the right procedure should be to drag it from here to the material editor, and then modify it.

Thanks for the reply Carlos. I just tried what you said. Got some standard trees I planted. I added a some Oak trees . Clicked select by type (oak tree) then went to transforms. I scaled the oak, but the rest of the trees scaled with them. Still scratching my head on that one. The materials part is great though, I've been looking at the materials section and not in the geometry part, so thanks a lot for that.

Transforamtions rollout in iToo ForestPack are not meant to transform only selected items.
You must transform selected items with default max tools like move, rotate and scale...

Thanks again. Been doing that. I see what you mean now. Select by type then scale those items globally using the standard transform tools.
