Title: Trees are White
Post by: sreyes on January 25, 2022, 06:29:46 PM
Hello,
Im using my GPU & Arnold Renderer but my trees are coming out white. However when I use CPU to render they come out normal color.  Please see attached.

Any thoughts?

3ds Max 2022
MAXtoA : 5.0.2.42
Arnold: 7.0.0.1
Forest Pack Pro 7.3.0.65

Hi,

Thanks for the question. Which trees are you using? Our libraries require legacy map support to be enabled, and according to Autodesk,  support is a lot more limited than in GPU mode so it could be related to something unsupported in the shader network.

Best,

Paul

I am using both "Silver Maple 1" and "American Elm 1".

In the screenshot I sent, it shows that I have legacy map support enabled. In 2022 its called "3ds Max Maps Support" under the "Arnold Renderer" tab.

I would like to use GPU since its way faster than CPU .

Although I couldn't reproduce white trees, I've done some tests and I can confirm that several of the maps used in those materials are not compatible with GPU mode and will be ignored, including Forest Colour. You may need to work a little on the materials in order to have them work in GPU mode. Meanwhile, we'll take a look at our end to see if the materials can be updated in the future.

Best,
Paul

Is there a list of which presets can be used with Arnold GPU renderer?

I'm afraid not at present - these presets were created before Arnold GPU was released and it's is a lot less forgiving about native Max maps, including but not limited to Forest Colour, which will impact probably most of our presets. In the event that the map is unsupported, it appears to use the diffuse colour instead which may be why some presets like grass looks OK from a distance. We will look into how we can support GPU mode in the future,  but in the short term, it's probably going to involve having to modify the materials a bit.
