Trouble with offset after updating to 8.2.1
« on: August 13, 2024, 11:22:21 PM »
Hi all,

I recently updated Forest Pack to version 8.1.1 from 7.1.1, and I've been running into this issue of forest objects in 3DS files being offset, seemingly to a random degree (on all 3 axes), from paint areas, surfaces and paths. I've attached a few example images. Currently running 3DS Max 2024 (26.2.3.124)

These all were perfectly aligned prior to updating. I've reset the Xforms on the surfaces, made sure the pivots for the base objects were correct, but no luck. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Am I missing a setting or could it be a bug?

Let me know if I can provide any other info. Thanks!

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you're facing these troubles. Typically, there shouldn't be any issues reading scenes from the previous version of the Forest Pack plug-in, and the distribution should remain the same. However, in certain cases, there could be differences. It's hard to completely rule out any potential changes.

If possible, please send us your scene — ideally simplified and containing only the problematic object(s) — so we can examine it here. Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Hi Michal,

Thanks for the response - of course as I was putting the scenes together to send, I discovered what the problem was. Basically the objects were grouped inside of another group (on a layer that was turned off). For example, one of the groups was "FP_Base" > "Low Poly Cars". Once I moved the objects from the "Low Poly Cars" group back up to "FP_Base", it solved the problem! Not entirely sure why (maybe had something to do with the pivot of the group?), but I'm glad that it was that simple of a fix.

I'm glad to hear you've got it sorted out. In FP8, the handling of Groups has changed - there are now options like 'Include Children' and 'Keep Group Hierarchy' (which treats groups as a single object) to give you more control over how Groups are managed. I hope that helps clarify it.

Best regards,
