Unit scale issue with FP 1cm=1mm
« on: January 31, 2017, 11:40:56 AM »
Hi
I am on max 2017.
I have a unit scale issue, when I use the meadow  for example.
Unlike most of Europe Ireland and I think England, we  use M not cmas our main units for Drawing inb CAd and Modeling.

So I get 1cm =1mm , so the scale is not coming in correct, so nothing shows on screen when I try to set up a forest pro set of plants.
Any Idea what I can do?

Thank you

Phil

Hi,

It sounds like a 3ds max system unit setup issue as Forest Pack respect scene units. I would suggest you to open the Units Setup dialogue (Customize - Units Setup...) and set used units correspondingly, also it's recommendable under System Unit Setup window check the option Respect System Units in Files.

Hope that helps.

Best regadrs,

Well, I have the attached below set up and it seems to work fine for everything else.
The Work I am doing is architectural so meters is the general set up.
Why is forest Pro set up for cm,  only?

So Any other advise.

Thank you

Hi,

Well, the Display Unit Scale (set to Meters) doesn't matter - important is the System Unit Scale (in your case set to Millimetres).

The Forest itself isn't set to any units - it respects 3ds max's scene setup (System Unit Scale) (in most cases by default set to Centimetres).

Hope that clears it up, but in case of any further question or doubt, please don't hesitate to ask.

Best regards,

still not working.
I had to take it out make new polygons and attached them to the ones I want covered with Items.
Deleted the unwanted ones and re merge them.
Not Ideal.

Hi Phil,

When using any "scaled surface(s)" Forest will inherit this scale (and that's not always desirable). In these cases, I would suggest you to apply the Reset XForm utility over that surface to reset its local coordinates & scale. Generally, if you are using an imported surface, usually it's handy to apply the Reset XForm utility on it to "reset" its transforms.

Hope that helps, but if the issue persist, please feel free to send us your scene to check it here. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
