Correct way to install Summer tree library
« on: December 18, 2018, 10:16:23 AM »
Hello,

We have purchased Summer Tree collection some time ago. Since we have in our studio 16 computers (5 workstations and 11 nodes) can you give us an instruction how to install that library in a proper way to have a correct path on each machine? We have remapped textures for each file but it does not seem to work that way.
Thank you!
Boris

Hi Boris

Have You remapped mat lib files?

When using this library it should ask You to add paths to external paths list:

Anyway You can add them Yourself to Your workstation PC:

Mine is local but network path should work just fine too.

Hello,

thank you! So you think that the only solution is to manually add paths to the nodes as well?
I've opened a mat lib and remapped all textures to the network location and replaced the SummerTrees-vray.mat which is called as an xref for each model.
But this does not look as a straightforward solution. I assume that I'm not the only one using the library for distributed rendering. We have abandoned long time ago the practice to add paths to user paths in max. it is not a sustainable solution for the studio.
Is it possible to make a library installer and use the feature of the .max file, where you can write the paths inside it without opening the max itself? If I'm not wrong this is an option since max2011

Cheers,
Boris

Both methods should. 1. Remap assets of matlib file or 2. Add path to User Paths list in the workstation PC (no need in rendernodes).

Thanks for suggestion regarding metadata modification (Available since max2010). We will investigate this option.
