Transform > Translation MAP control?
« on: September 01, 2012, 01:45:40 AM »
I was trying to duplicate this image in 3D using Forest Pro, but have come across a problem.

I thought it was be as simple as creating a gradient ramp from light to dark (perhaps with some noise for slight randomness) to control the Z-rotation of the forest object.  Well it was!

Well, these blocks don't just rotate, they fall out of the grid position as it gets more chaotic.  I know there's an option for that:  Transform > Translation.

The bad part is there is no MAP option to control this.  Instead it's all or nothing.  It would be as easy as throwing in the same map I've used for the rotation.

Is there an alternative way to get that effect?  Is it possible to add this feature in an upcoming release so that it can have the same control as Transform > Scale and Transform > Rotation?

I got a similar effect moving the Pivot of the custom object, and using a rotate map. Please, see the attached scene (Max 2010).

In any case, i just added the translation map feature to the wishlist.

Ah, the pivot point.  Clever, thanks!
