Title: Using Forest Pack with Alembic points exported from Houdini
Post by: Andrei on March 13, 2025, 07:44:23 am
I'm currently building a procedural city in Houdini and exporting point data via Alembic to 3ds Max. These points have custom attributes:

Name (defines which object to scatter)
Orient and Up (for correct orientation)
    Scale (for non-uniform scaling)

I would like to use Forest Pack to scatter modular geometry created in 3ds Max onto these imported Alembic points. What's the best workflow for setting up Forest Pack to utilize these custom attributes for instancing geometry?

Hi,

Apart from matching the rotation and scale by enabling the Align & Scale checkboxes, the Reference distribution mode also allows you to use regular expressions to create filters and match specific geometry to the names of reference objects. I would recommend checking out the related tutorial: Using match references by name and regular expressions (https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/using-match-references-by-name-and-regular-expressions). I hope you’ll find it helpful.

Best regards,
