Hi,
edge boundary doesnt work for Vray proxies or Im just missing something :/
-
Hi frodo,
As you're using proxies in your scene let me tell, that as mentioned in our on-line reference guide (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Areas#Areas-Topreventscattereditemsfrom%22leaking%22outsideanareaperimeter):
"Please be aware that Edge Mode is not compatible with V-Ray proxies. If you wish to reduce file sizes and use Edge Mode it is recommended to use XRef objects instead."
Anyway, it's always possible to use the work-flow explained in the "Grass Edges (http://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/tutorial_grass_edges.php)" tutorial (mixing small / large clumps).
Hope that helps.

Thanks. I know I saw it somewhere. :) Is this some big technical difficulty behind this? Proxies are much better than xref.
-
Yes, there are tecnical limitations for this.
Forest analyzes the mesh structure of the scattered objects, to identify the position of each element respect to the edge.
But proxies have their own format, handled directly by V-Ray. There is not a standard geometry or mesh, which Forest can use.

Thanks. Then we can only hope that sometimes... :)

This is such a shame. The new vray 6.2 allows Chaos scatter to accomplish this. Any chance this idea can be revived or re-investigated?

I'm not sure how ChaosScatter solved it (obviously they have more control over their own proxies), but i will take a look to it again.
