bitmap manager error
« on: April 29, 2025, 07:58:28 pm »
Hi,

I seem to be getting the error:

Bitmap manager error - File full.bmp could not be found.

I tried checking the forestpack.ini and making sure the checktexturepaths=1 was set, which it is. It seems to only be my PC suddenly having this issue, other PCs are opening the file without error.

3ds max 2023 - windows 10 - FP 8.2.2

What else could be causing it to not find the map? its getting quite frustrating as it spams up quite a few times on opening a file.

Hi Theo,

It seems that for some reason, paths to Forest Pack's assets are missing or not properly mapped in your 3ds Max configuration. By setting checkTexturePaths = 1 in the forestpack.ini, you shouldn't need to manually configure the corresponding path. When Forest Pack is loaded, it checks if the paths exist, and if not, it can add them automatically (a warning message will be displayed).

If you can't see such a window when starting the 3ds max for some reason, you can map it "manually" - you can access the configuration by going to Customize - Configure User Paths - External files and the relevant information is stored in the 3dsmax.ini file (C:\Users\<yourUsername>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\<maxversion>\ENU\3dsmax.ini).

By default, these distribution maps are located under the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Itoo Software\Forest Pack Pro\distmaps\images

I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Theo

Hi,

So I checked the max ini file and at the bottom there is a [BitmapsDirs] and then it lists a bunch of Dir1= Dir2=. All of these are for itoo software but all of them point to appdata\local paths and yeah it would appear that the distmaps path is missing.

So if I just manually add it as Dir20 or something itll be ok?

Any reason why the forestpack check paths would have stopped working even when checked as 1?

If it's not listed within the [BitmapDirs] section for some reason, adding Dir20=c:\program files\itoo software\forest pack pro\distmaps\images should fix it.
