how do I remove references to forestpackpro2.dlo xshadow?
« on: June 18, 2012, 05:26:39 PM »
I have an old scene that claims to be using xshadow yet I have no forest objects and no lights. How do I get rid of this plugin reference?

Try to merge all objects in a new fresh scene, this should eliminate all old plugin references.

That was the first thing I tried but the reference is still there when I open the file. If I check File properties/contents, forestpackpro2.dlo shows up under "used plugins". But under summary info/plug-in info, it doesn't show up.

Does xshadow attach to anything besides light objects? there are no lights in the scene.

thanks,
Kai

I finally managed to get rid of the xshadow reference by creating a new light and set the shadow type to shadow map.

I just found in our e-mail archive a message from Autodesk about this issue. This seems a common behaviour of Max with the shadow plugins; it creates a 'dummy' shadow reference, even if XShadow is not used anymore in the scene.

They provided us a script to fix the missing reference, but probably it is a bit complex for the end users. Your method has the same result and it is much more simple.
