Faulty "license in use" message
« on: September 02, 2008, 05:00:57 PM »
We having some issues getting a license to work correctly on one of out workstations. We have two stand alone licenses of Forest Pack Pro 3 and have installed a different one on each of our 2 workstations (one 3dsmax 32-bit, the other is 64-bit). We have confirmed that a different license is on each machine through the Itoo Software License Manager.

Forest Pack works great on one workstation (32-bit), but the other one (64-bit) consistently reports:

"You license is being used by another node on the network. The Standalone license must be installed only in one computer. Please, use the License Manager to verify your licenses."

We have verified that a different license/SN of forest pack is installed on each machine. The problem is occurring on the workstation running WinXP x64, and 3dsmax 2009 64-bit. I have uninstalled forest pack and deleted the license and have reinstalled and activated the license but the issue still occurs. The only workaround i have found is it i disable my network connections, but that's not really a viable solution.

Is this a known issue or is the some solution that i have missed?

Thanks.

No, this is not a known issue. Are there other computers on your network using Forest 3 (as network rendering nodes) ?

Please, open a command window on Windows using Start Menu->Run->Cmd, write this:

ipconfig /all

and post here the results.

No, we do not have any rendernodes running Forestpack 3. We have a few with Forestpack 2 installed, but this shouldn't conflict with a v.3 license should it? Here are the results from the ipconfig:

We have done some tests using your licenses and same 3DS environment, but we don't reproduce the problem. After reviewing the source code for the license verification routines, we have not found bugs either.

So, we are writing a patched plugin that shows additional information for this error message. and will help us to diagnose what is happenning. I will send it to you as soon as possible (probably tomorrow).

Thanks for the quick update. I have attached a screencap of the new error screen. Apparently my workstation (syr-emainzer-8core) is causing the error? One thought we had- does forest pack license based on the number of processor cores? I'm running an 8-core Apple MacPro.

minor update- my workstation does have two network cards built-in, but only one is plugged in and the other is "disabled" in the NETWORK CONNECTIONS control panel. I have not made any changes recently.

No, Forest license is not based on number of processor cores. This seems some bug on our software... on the error message i see some strange characters at the end of the workstation name, probably that is creating all problems.

We are working to isolate the bug and fix it... i will write to you soon.

(P.S: i just edited the screenshot to hide your Forest Pro serial number)

Well, we have found the problem: the workstation name must be limited to 15 characters, using 16 or more trigger the error. If you edit it from "syr-emainzer-8core" to a shorter name, will solve this issue.

For next Forest release (that must be ready in the next days) we will fix the code to support longer names.

Excellent! I shortened the name and that seems to have fixed the problem.
Thanks again for your continued effort and extremely quick feedback.
