Problems with lawn preset
« on: May 31, 2023, 10:13:02 PM »
Hello, Im quite new to this. I took a risk and wnated to make really good vizualizations for big scene.
with trial and error I managed to get everything work exept Forestpack lawn preset. Im using preset of a lawn that is meant for large areas (not detailed one). I went trough a lot of errors and seem to manage to solve them all - like adjusting "density x/y" and "max items" values. But when I try to export it to Chaos Vantage it either loads in 30-45 mins, but without grass on the plane or 3ds max just gets unresponsive after 10 minutes.

What can I do to fix this or at least are there any alternatives I can do to make this project, because grass is the only thing holding me back.

P.S. I got last Forest pack version that got out yesterday
My pc got 32gb ram and rtx 3090.
Grass presets from vray chaos libriary dont seem to work either. They show up on viewport, but not in render.

Hi,

That sounds like you’re “hitting some limit(s)” - please, try using Forest Tools to export these as instances (it can be found under Utilities panel - More ... - Forest Tools - please feel free check this our documentation for more details) and import these. Just take in mind, that 3ds Max performance slows down while handling more than 50k objects. This way you can check whether the problem happens during Forest object conversion or not.

Thanks in advance for any further details you can share about it with us / our user community (in case some user(s) will run into similar troubles).

Best regards,

Hello, thanks for reply I tried reducing the amaunt of grass that seemed to help. But what I noticed is that what kept my Chaos Vantage crashing was when I turned on the Edge mode to trim edges, with out it it loaded fine. I found on forum workaround which uses area as base and uses spines layer for defining edge, but it didnt work as well as I learned that VRAY GPU doesnt support edge mode

Hi,

The Edge Boundary Checking mode is recently supported also on V-Ray GPU, but let me mention, that in the case of the GPU / Chaos Vantage implementation is done entirely by the Chaos Group team, and in case of any further issues with it, I would recommend you report it directly to them.

Let me mention, that as far as I know, the support for Opacity maps wasn’t enabled by default, therefore please feel free to try enabling Opacity maps to see if that helps.

Best regards,

That explains why it work before lol. But yeah Im aware of Opacity maps, but this time it seems that edge maps is suddenly not wroking at all with or without Vray gpu. Ahh. Ok I will talk directly to them thank you
