XRef scene converting problem
« on: January 23, 2018, 11:19:27 PM »
Hey guys, I tried to search for it on the forum but didn't find a solution to that.
Basically I'm trying to save a grass forest preset made of 6 forest objects into a xref scene to lower file size and possibly loading time. So I select all the 6 forest objects plus the soil the objects are scattered on and click on convert selected in the 3ds max xref scene window.
But when the process is over some objects disappear and don't get rendered. I'm using 3ds max 2018 and Corona.
Am I doing something wrong? Is this a known problem?

Regards

Hi,

When using the Convert Selected Objects to XRefs ... tool (under References - XRef Objects), please double check you have also all Forest components selected - for example by having the Select Influences option marked.

Hope that helps you and please let us know that's all working fine or you are still facing troubles with it. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Hi Michael, thanks for your reply.
I was trying to use XRef scenes, not XRef objects. Any known issue with that?

Hi,

First, let me apologize for the late reply. The Convert Selected feature from the XRef Scenes dialog window should work correctly (and upon my quick tests it does) - based on the same principles - you should have all "influences" selected (like by the previously mentioned Select Influences option) to bring to such scene all objects needed for the successful Forest object recreation.

In case of any further issues with it, please try to reproduce the problem with a minimal scene and send us such scene to check it here.

Thanks a lot for your collaboration, your feedback is very important to us.

Best regards,

Hi Michael,
maybe I'm doing something wrong, but the select influences option is available when you merge something. As you can see from the screenshot attached, I basically select the objects I want to transform into a xref scene, click on convert selected, which opens a path saving dialog, and save them where I want them. When the saving is done, some of the forest pack objects are gone, both in preview and in render.
Please note that the forest pack objects are coming from a preset I made, so they are basically saved on another file.

Regards,
Hadi

Hi Michael,
any follow up on this? I'm a bit disappointed with the customer service, as you guys used to reply straight after months ago, while now it's taking ages.

Hi Hadi,

Please apologize for my late reply. As I can't reproduce any similar troubles - all selected parts are being successfully converted in my tests (tested by creating XRef Scene having also XRef Objects used as Custom Objects with 3ds Max 2018.4, Forest Pack Pro 5.4.1, Corona 1.7 Hotfix 2), if possible, please try to reproduce the problem with a minimal scene and send us such scene to analyze it here. Also, would you mind to specify your actual software configuration (3ds Max, FP & renderer versions)? Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Hey Michal,
same configuration as you. I'll setup a scene with just the objects I converted for you to test it.

Hadi
