3ds max 2023 issues
« on: April 22, 2022, 05:26:48 PM »
It seems that the official release will have to wait 2-3 months?

Not so much, i guess. These betas are pretty stable, but we want to be sure there is not nothing broken, specially with the new installation format.

There is no forest option in the 3dsmax quad menu, the material optimization dialog cannot be opened
max2022 and 2023

It seems Forest scripts are not loaded correctly from the new location. We'll check it.

Meanwhile, please try copying the content of C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\ForestPackPro2023\Contents\scripts to the 3DS Max "scripts" folder, and restarting Max.

Tried, still doesn't work

Ok, there is another problem with the scripts folder structure. Please, try this:

- Copy "forestpack.ms" from C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\ForestPackPro2023\Contents\scripts\startup to <maxdir>\scripts\startup
- Create a "forestpack" folder in <maxdir>\scripts
- Copy "forest_utils.ms" and "optmat.mse" from  C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\ForestPackPro2023\Contents\scripts to <maxdir>\scripts\forestpack
- Restart Max.

These must be the files in <maxdir>:

scripts\startup\forestpack.ms
scripts\forestpack\forest_utils.ms
scripts\forestpack\optmat.mse

Thanks, working now.

I have installed the current beta on both max 2021 and max 2023.

Max 2021 works fine, however opening max 2023 throws up a loading error (attached)
Once I ok through the error in 2023, it seems to then work ok.

I have tried the above file changes suggested but that doesnt do anything.

Also my update manager shows an error (attached).

The Update Manager error was caused by a temporary problem in our server. It's already fixed.
Please, try running Update Manager manually from the Windows Start menu->Itoo Software.

Regarding the dlo error, that's strange. Because for Max 2022/2023, the plugin is not longer installed in the Max plugins folder, but at C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins.
Please remove manually forestpackpro.dlo from the "plugins" folder, reinstall and check if file appears again.

Hi there Carlos! Thanks for the reply.

Update manager now works. Thanks.

I deleted the dlo and ran 2023 and it all worked fine.
I reinstalled too just to see and the dlo did indeed reappear for me in the plugins folder...

Looking again at the installer, it is asking me for my 3DS Max 2021 folder, not 2023. So in this case I suppose it's installing a 2021 version into my max 2023 installation. Very confusing. I don't get an option to install FP on any version other that 2021 btw.
