flickering plants again :(
« on: December 09, 2016, 05:59:10 PM »
going to poke this again, I have flickering plants in renders .. I've started running into it even with default FP distribution maps (so the vray bitmap loader in an output doesnt fix it) its the ticket about flickering renders sent to you guys back in October from scanlinevfx00. It's something to do with the viewport distribution on first frame in deadline vs backburner.. Im going to try and load the FP bitmap into a vray hdri loader and try the same trick, but I don’t think it’ll make a difference :/

FP 5.2.0
vray 3.45.01

cheers,

btw the flickering I'm talking about is random plants in a FP object either rotating or something on random machines (there is only one plant in the FP object so its not a model, and it happens with placeholder geo (like the built in proxy types, we sent you a scene with a setup I believe)

not animation or sampling or gi flickering ;)

i'm going to have to create a new bug report, I dont think its related to the first issue we had, I re-read the bug and that was for vanishing objects.. this one doesnt do that, but instead rotates it or something else between farm machines..(I'm trying to debug as much as I can, but its a massive scene)

ok, somewhat resolved this, but I think theres an issue in the plugin somewhere:

the flickering objects all had anim caches on them, but the animation option in FP is OFF. If I set it to ON it still flickers like before
if I disable the cache on the object itself, the flickering goes away,

so regardless of the fact it might be an issue with the cache, having the animation disabled in the FP object should have stopped the flickering no? I'm wondering if perhaps some machines are respecting the flag, and others arent...

Hi Chris,

Sorry to hear you're facing these troubles. We're trying to reproduce it here - would you mind to confirm your configuration (3ds max 2015 / Forest Pack Pro 5.2.0 / V-Ray 3.4 / Deadline 8.0)?

As you've mentioned, that "... the flickering objects all had anim caches on them ..." - can you please specify more in detail your scene set-up (are you using proxies, Point Cache modifier ...)?

If possible, sending us a minimal scene, where you can reproduce this problem would be really great. Thanks for all your feedback.

Best regards,

Hi Michal,

Sorry I've taken so long to reply but I've managed to reproduce the issue with a simple scene finally, but it also introduced another issue at the same time lol. I'm having the pipeline guys send a file to you (should come from scanline) and a short seq of images with a description on how to reproduce, as well as a vray log file where the crash happens. The crashing part is one issue, the flickering/popping geometry is another, but should happen in same file. This has been reproduced on a lot of machines here to make sure it actually happens (the crasher part) and the flickering/popping SHOULD happen on farm render (deadline)

cheers
